Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens -- Public demonstration at KLCC

U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur
December 3, 2011

-------

Local press reports indicate that there will be a public protest on Saturday, December 3rd at 2 p.m. in the KLCC Park in downtown Kuala Lumpur, roughly ¼ mile west of the Embassy. The protest, opposing the draft Public Assembly Bill, has not received official permission.   The situation at this time remains uncertain, and gatherings (with police presence) are possible in or near the KLCC Park.

Even demonstrations that are meant to be peaceful can become violent and unpredictable. You should avoid them if at all possible. Be alert and pay attention to what local news media have to say.
