Obama Campaign Manager Shares Lessons from the Obama Campaign with Malaysians in “Webinar”
On June 16, the U.S. Embassy, in collaboration with the National Democratic Institute (NDI), hosted an interactive web-based seminar (webinar) with former Barack Obama campaign manager David Plouffe and former legal counsel for Obama for America, Bob Bauer. Embassy Political Counselor Mark Clark introduced the webinar, “Lessons from the Obama Campaign,” which included participants from more than 30 countries. The panelists discussed President Obama’s election campaign and social networking, concluding that the campaign’s innovations and use of new technology have changed the way people can organize for elections. The presentations emphasized the Obama campaign’s effective use of technology to build and empower a dynamic grassroots organization throughout the country.
The sponsor of the event, NDI, is a non-governmental, non-partisan organization that operates in 79 countries and works to promote openness in government, political and civic organization, and citizen participation in democracy. Guests at this event came from varied backgrounds and groups interested in politics, democracy and international relations, including members of most major political parties.
