"I can do it too!" Proclaim Little Heroes and Heroines at Lincoln Corner Melaka

The Embassy organized on an all-day program at the Lincoln Corner in Melaka.  Geared towards children, this activity reached out to a new audience of young Malaysians.   On October 24, a crowd of 150 young, shy children proclaimed, “I can do it, too!” showing their confidence in response to a story read by an Embassy librarian dressed as a princess.  The librarian read from Karen Baicker’s book of the same title.  The young audience was enchanted with Baicker’s riveting story about how a young African- American girl learned to be self-confident and, in turn, to be helpful to others.  In addition to the children, parents, teachers and other members of the public enjoyed the fun-filled activities at the Lincoln Corner in Melaka.

Activities included story-telling sessions, drawing and coloring contests, book and poster exhibitions and quizzes on Abraham Lincoln, Halloween and other aspects of American society, history and culture.  A child quipped “If Obama can, so can I,” and ran away with a copy of  Baicker’s book!
