In addition to conducting several English Language Teacher Workshops in Sabah and Sarawak, on September 20, Ms Kathryn Trump, English Language Specialist (ELSPEC) from George Mason University conducted a very dynamic English Enrichment Program titled ‘Awesome English’ for underprivileged students, at the ELS Language Centre in Penang.

Over 50 underprivileged English ACCESS Microscholarship students attended the program and participated in the planned activities. Students learned the differences between formal and informal English and the importance of pronunciation in the English language. They were encouraged to communicate only in English during the program, to improve their English as well as their general communication skills.

Students’ positive feedback to Ms. Trump was that the ‘Awesome English’ program was extremely interesting and valuable. It gave them confidence to explore and develop their English skills, in different ways such as by watching American TV shows and American movies. They also expressed that the program had helped them to be more confident when conversing in English.

At the end of the program, all students were pleased with what they had learned and expressed their gratitude for the gifts they received from the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur.
