Roundtable of Commerce Undersecretary Sanchez with Malaysian Media
On May 21, visiting Department of Commerce Undersecretary for International Trade Francisco Sanchez met with key economics-focused journalists during his two-day visit to Kuala Lumpur. U/S Sanchez briefed reporters about the Trade Winds business delegation and updated the media on the status of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations. Undersecretary Sanchez emphasized the importance of U.S.-Malaysia trade relations with particular emphasis on two-way trade and investment. He talked about opportunities for investment in the United States and how small and medium-size enterprises in both countries will benefit from the TPP. The roundtable was covered by the New Straits Times, Nanyang, the Malaysian Reserve, Bernama, TV3 and Bloomberg.
The event was an excellent opportunity to promote the expansion of U.S. exports in view of Malaysia's intention to participate in the TPP negotiations. It helped create awareness of the U.S.-Malaysia strategic partnership and the two countries’ shared business goals.
