U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur Hosts Iftar
On August 14, 2012, Ambassador Paul Jones hosted an Iftar at his residence. The event was well attended by key Embassy contacts from diverse professional backgrounds as well as members of the diplomatic community from a range of Muslim countries. Before breaking fast, the Ambassador gave brief welcome remarks in Bahasa Malaysia and later read a quote from President Obama’s White House Iftar, which presented an opportunity to reinforce the President’s message of engagement with the Muslim World. After the breaking of the fast and prayer time, the Ambassador had lively and engaging conversations with the guests. Many guests thanked the Ambassador for hosting an event.
The event was significant because it brought together well-established, long-term embassy contacts and an opportunity for the Ambassador to meet them and emphasized how the U.S. is committed to continuing our understanding and partnership with the Malaysian community. For the Malaysians it was a wonderful sign of recognition, respect and friendship extended to them by the Ambassador. Many guests were clearly touched by the hospitality and openness of the Ambassador.
