On May 4, Ambassador Keith spoke at the Rotary Club of Pudu on the topic of the “100 Days” of the Obama Administration. The Ambassador enjoyed lunch and fellowship with a large group of Rotarians and their invited guests, following which he spoke about the experience of the Obama Administration during its first three months in office, and of the many challenges that lie ahead. The Ambassador pointed out that the typical American president "has two or three big problems, but President Obama has had to handle much more.”
Mentioning Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea, a new approach to healthcare in the United States, achieving energy independence, a pandemic flu, and the global economic recession, the Ambassador also pointed out that the Obama Administration has moved very quickly, naming a top envoy to the Middle East within two days of his inauguration, and sending his Secretary of State to Asia on her first overseas trip, which included an historic call upon the ASEAN Secretariat – the first by a U.S. Secretary of State. “President Obama said recently,” the Ambassador pointed out, “that every generation has to rise up to the specific challenges that confront them… and we are confident that we will meet those challenges, just like our grandparents and forbears met them before.”
