July 6 Ambassador Philip Goldberg, the US co-ordinator for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1874, led a US delegation to Malaysia and China from July 2-6, 2009. Ambassador Philip S. Goldberg, spoke with Malaysian and international media on the evening of Monday, July 6, after a day of discussions with Malaysian government officials.

June 22- July 1 Professor Janet Steele from George Washington University worked with fifteen journalists from the National News Agency BERNAMA in a three-day workshop on Narrative Journalism on June 22, June 25 and July 1. The workshop focused on narrative news writing as a genre and discussed the goals and the ethics of good journalism in general.

June 10-12 The US Commercial Service (USCS) at the US Embassy supported Oil & Gas Asia (OGA) 2009 from June 10-12, at the KL Convention Centre. As one of Asia’s premier oil and gas conference, the event attracted more than 20,000 trade visitors and decision makers from the oil and gas industry.

June 8 On June 8 Jenifer Galt, Deputy Director of EAP/PD joined PAS Kuala Lumpur staff for a meeting with Jim Laurie of Al Jazeera English (AJE). Al Jazeera English maintains its Asia news center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as well as smaller news bureaus in Beijing, Delhi, Jakarta, Manila and other Asian cities.

Teamwork Takes Center Stage in Kuala Lumpur City Library English Enrichment Camp
June 4 80 Malaysian students from 8 different secondary schools in Kuala Lumpur participated in a day-long Lincoln Corner English Enrichment Program in the Kuala Lumpur City Library. The day started with an ice breaking session which was designed to encourage students to speak to each other in English.

Excellent Teamwork and Newfound Friendships in Kedah Lincoln Corner
June 2 more than 100 secondary school students in Kedah participated in a one-day English Enrichment Program at the Kedah Public Library. The students participated in interactive sessions on American sports, music and idioms led by American Embassy representatives.

Hope for the Fight Against Cancer
May 30 On May 30, 2009 about 5,000 people gathered in the Bukit Jalil training stadium to participate in the Relay for Life 2009 (RFL 2009). This event is a 16 hour walk-a-thon held annually to raise funds for the Malaysian National Cancer Society and commemorate the fight against cancer. RFL 2009 began at 6pm and ended at 10am on Sunday May 31st.

Ambassador James R. Keith Visits Kelantan
May 18-21 Ambassador Keith visited to the Malaysian states of Kelantan and Terengganu. This was his first visit to both places, part of his familiarization with all the corners of Malaysia. The Ambassador met political leaders, government officials, and members of civil society in both Kuala Terengganu and Kota Bharu.

May 15 On Friday, May 15, 2009, Economic Counselor Matt Matthews spoke to 70 students and professors at Inti International College in Bukit Jambul, Penang on the topic of “U.S.-Malaysian Economic Relations and the Global Economic Crisis.” Mr. Matthews discussed the origins of the global financial crisis and its impact on the global economy.

Ambassador Discusses President Obama's First "100 Days" with Local Rotary
May 4 Ambassador Keith spoke at the Rotary Club of Pudu on the topic of the “100 Days” of the Obama Administration. The Ambassador enjoyed lunch and fellowship with a large group of Rotarians and their invited guests, following which he spoke about the experience of the Obama Administration during its first three months in office.

Ambassador Helps Launch Krispy Kreme Outlet in K.L.
April 27 U.S. Ambassador James R Keith cut the ribbon to the new Krispy Kreme store at Berjaya Times Square in Kuala Lumpur. The new franchise held by, Berjaya Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Sdn Bhd, has opened the first Krispy Kreme doughnut shop in Malaysia on Monday, April 27, with 19 more in their plans.
