December 18 On December 18, 2008, Ambassador and Mrs. Keith attended a charitable Christmas high tea at the Federal Hotel Kuala Lumpur for more than 100 orphans. The children were from Rumah Kids, Rumah Kasih, Good Samaritan and Agathians Home. The children chatted with the Ambassador and his wife and received Christmas gifts at the event.

In addition to the families and children of Embassy staff, they invited a group of special guests from Pusat Jagaan Siddharthan Care Centre, a local children's home in Petaling Jaya.

December 2 On December 2, 2008 Ambassador Keith paid a visit to Nanyang Siang Pau Newspaper, one of Malaysia's oldest Chinese-language newspapers. He met with Editor in Chief Mr. Chong Tien Siong and senior staff for a broad-ranging, off-the-record discussion, and then visited Nanyang's "Hall of History."
Kelantan Students' English and Teamwork Shine at Lincoln Corner Kota Bharu
November 25 Nearly 60 secondary school students and teachers attended an all-day Vacation English Camp at the Lincoln Corner in the Kelantan State Library in Kota Bharu on November 25. The program's goal was to help students practice English-language reading, listening and speaking skills.

U.S. Partnership Enhances Malaysia's Oil Production
November 18 Ambassador James Keith toured Kikeh, Malaysia's first deepwater oil field, on November 18. A joint venture operated by Murphy Oil with its partner Petronas Carigali, Kikeh is cranking out 100,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) in waters 1300 meters deep--no small engineering feat.

November 13 American Professor Hortense Simmons demonstrated the power and beauty of poetry by African-American writers for 200 students and faculty members at Selangor International Islamic University (Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor) on November 13, 2008. Simmons gave engaging readings of poems by Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou and others.

Panel Wows Audience at Forum on U.S Presidential Elections 2008
October 30 Professor John Voll spoke at the STAR-Asian Center for Media Studies Forum on U.S. Elections together with former Fulbright Professor Joan Kosta and Professor Lee Poh Ping of University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Over 200 people attended the forum, which focused on issues of interest in the 2008 U.S. presidential election.

Special Needs Ladies enjoy fellowship with Ambassador and student volunteers
October 4 Ambassador and Mrs. James Keith hosted a lunch on Saturday, October 4, 2008 for 22 handicapped ladies and 3 Catholic Sisters from the Asrama Cahaya Home for Handicapped Women in Bukit Nenas, Kuala Lumpur. This was a special occasion for these women, orphaned in World War II and, for the most part, resident at the home ever since.

Inside Story: Sharing the meaning of American idioms with students in Terengganu
September 23 Public Diplomacy Officer Ms. Cody Taylor visited Sekolah Al Amin in Kemaman, Terengganu. During her visit, she delivered a talk to about 80 students entitled "American Idioms." They practiced some of the new expressions learned with Cody, selecting their favorites, such as "all bark and and no bite," "spilling the beans" or "play by ear."

More than 70 students and teachers practiced English by listening, speaking, and reading during interactive sessions on American sports, music, and politics led by American Embassy staff.
Sultan of Selangor pays a visit to the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan
August 20 The Sultan of Selangor paid a visit to the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan on Wednesday, August 20th, accompanied by U.S. Ambassador James R. Keith. The U.S.S. Reagan arrived in Port Klang on a scheduled port call. The ship, named for the 40th U.S. president, is a Nimitz-class nuclear-powered super carrier commissioned in July 2003.
